Welcome to the Shovel Town Throw Down
Registration Opens 11/17/2025
NOVICE TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION LINK COMING SOON
Hosted at Oliver Ames High School (North Easton, MA), the Shovel Town Throw Down brings together wrestlers of all levels for a day of competition, community and cause. The nickname “Shovel Town” honours the town’s industrial heritage — in 1803 the Ames Shovel and Tool Company was founded here, and the company’s shovels helped shape the nation’s infrastructure.
Our Mission
This tournament is more than just mats and medals. Hosted by Oliver Ames Wrestling and supporting Beat The Streets New England (BTSNE), the event:
Features a dedicated Novice Division through the Massachusetts Wrestling Association (MWA)
Showcases officials trained in the BTSNE Officials Training Program — providing increased fairness, development and opportunity
Raises funds to help launch and expand a state-run all-girls wrestling tournament, furthering diversity and opportunity in the sport
Competition Format
Six full mats in use all day
For U6, U8 and U10: wrestling on 12 wrestling surfaces; periods are 1:00 / 1:00 / 1:00
For U12: two half-mats each on four half-mats; for U15: four full mats; both divisions wrestle 1:30 / 1:30 / 1:30
Competitive matches for everyone, no matter level or ambition
