This guide is intended for coaches who are 18 years of age or older. As an adult coach in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement, you play a critical role in changing sport culture and ending abuse. Your role as a coach makes you an Adult Participant. As an Adult Participant, you must follow the SafeSport Code and Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP). This guide highlights key items you need to know.

The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP) limits one-on-one adult/minor interactions and sets standards for training and sport settings that prevent abuse and misconduct.
This bill amends the Victims of Child Abuse Act of 1990 to extend the duty to report suspected child abuse, including sexual abuse, to adults who are authorized to interact with minor or amateur athletes at an amateur sports organization facility or at an event sanctioned by a national governing body (NGB) or member of an NGB. An NGB is an amateur sports organization that is recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017
